Briefly about Sanstha:

The great Nripati Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj, the enlightener Chhatrapati Maharaj, who revived the Bahujan Samaj, which had been entangled in social slavery for centuries and died in the darkness of ignorance, by giving milk of knowledge and breaking the socio-political and economic chain. This article reviews the establishment, development and expansion of the Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, which has worked tirelessly to bring knowledge in the form of education in Kolhapur through the Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maratha Vidyarthi Vasatigriha, i.e. Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha. Preface:

The nineteenth century saw significant changes in the political, social, cultural, religious and cultural life of India. The beginning of English education was an important link in this. Indians were beginning to realize the overall shortcomings of their lives. From this, many religious and social reform movements emerged. In Maharashtra during this period many social reformers have done remarkable work. Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj is a leading figure in the history of social reform in Maharashtra. Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj's career was a turning point not only in Kolhapur Sansthan but also in the history of Maharashtra. The name of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj as the architect of the social reconstruction of modern Maharashtra comes to mind. Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj did a great job of carrying forward the incomplete work of Mahatma Phule. During his career Vedokta Movement, Prevention of Untouchability, Free and Compulsory Primary Education, Student Hostel Movement, Untouchability, Women's Education, Promotion of Interracial Marriages, Promotion of Various Arts from Music to Wrestling, Irrigation for Agricultural Production, Encouragement of Workers Reserved seats closed. Due to various reforms made by Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, the name of Kolhapu became world famous. Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj gave special priority to educational reforms. As the people of the institute need to be educated for social change, he gave priority to setting up various forms of educational institutes, providing concessions to students and starting student hostels in Kolhapur. The hostel movement in Maharashtra started with the inspiration and generous philanthropy of the wealthy Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj. Of the many efforts made by Shahu Maharaj for the upliftment of the Bahujan Samaj, the most notable was the educational reforms he undertook. He was adamant that progress would not be made without opening the doors of education to the masses. Considering the situation at that time, there was no place for children to stay except in the dormitory of Rajaram College. It was limited to the upper castes and others did not have access to it. Therefore, he decided to set up hostels in Kolhapur with the aim of facilitating the education of children of various religions.

Experiment with student dormitories of all races:

The immediate reason for setting up a hostel for a Maratha student is very interesting. There was a hostel for Brahmin students in Kolhapur during this period. Non-Brahmin students were denied admission in these hostels. In fact, the dormitory was established around 1896 and was advertised as a 'dormitory for students of all castes and religions'. Because the title of National Education was at the head of this institution, Maharaj wanted to spread universal education through this institution. Prof. who called himself the promoter of 'National Education' for the help given by Maharaj. Bijapurkar has written the following text in his letter 'Samarth'. We have no doubt that our kind and loving Lord Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj is thus able to help those who work hard in the cause of education. " However, non-Brahmin youths seeking national education were denied entry to the institute as they had the experience of having one tooth to eat and one tooth to show off. Later, Maharaj stopped this experiment and decided to set up a separate hostel for students of all castes and religions. Before the establishment of the present hostel, only a handful of young people from non-Brahmin communities had benefited from English education. Among such students is Shri. Khanderao Bagal, Shri Yashwantrao Dilwar, Ramchandrarao Jadhav, Tukaram Patil, Govindrao Sasne, Baliwa Patil were the prominent names. Some of them had started college education after successfully passing the matriculation examinations.

Inoculation of the organization:

Before Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj started the hostel, Justice. M. G. Discussed this with Ranade and Gopal Krishna Gokhale, they liked Maharaj's plan. Gangarambhau Maske, head of the Deccan Maratha Education Society in Pune, was also consulted in this regard. Maharaj had pointed out that in order to bring the students of Bahujan Samaj into the stream of education, it was necessary to build hostels according to their caste. Because the racial bigotry in the society of that time was not something that could be easily broken. The Maharajah felt it was right to build a dormitory for the students of each caste and to bring forward the leaders of their caste. Apart from this, he also called on the Director of Education, Mumbai District, Mr. Giles had also been contacted in this regard. Min. Giles, in a letter to the Maharajah dated August 10, 1900, says, It is very important to make such special efforts to bring Marathas forward in terms of education. In this case, I agree with you. The habits and sentiments of the Marathas are hostile towards higher education. Therefore, compared to Brahmins, they are far behind in education. When I visited Kolhapur, I found that Marathas rarely apply for jobs in the education department. The situation is similar in other accounts. "

With the help and information of Gangaram Bhau Mhaske, the founder of Deccan Maratha Education Society established in Pune, he passed away. Bhaskarrao Jadhav, Dajisaheb Vichare and Jivajirao Sawant were invited to Kolhapur. And the responsibility of Shri Shahu Maratha Boarding was entrusted to him. Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj had in his mind the idea of sowing the seeds of Shri Maratha Vidyarthi Vasatigriha from the year 1894-95.Maharaj was always in search of needy and Bhojpur students of Bahujan Samaj. Apart from Deccan Maratha Education Society in Pune

ShahuIt is learned that Chimanaji Patil, a student of Rajaram High School, has passed matriculation. Shahu Maharaj was very happy with this news. Learning to be a boy in the Bahujan Samaj at that time, passing matriculation was a matter of great appreciation. Shahu Maharaj was staying at Panhalgad at that time due to the plague. Maharaj immediately sent a rider and called Patla's son to the Panhala and inquired about his further education. It was a matter of great admiration that a farmer boy from Patil family should achieve Suyash in the matriculation examination. Dr. As soon as Patil told Maharaj about his own bitter experience in the Brahmani cuisine and the plight of the students of Pargaon, he decided to put the idea of hostel into practice. Govindrao Pisal, Alvekar, Shinde and Babasaheb Nimbalkar were the congregation. Around this time, Rao Bahadur P. of Satar, who passed the matriculation examination. K. Shinde, R. R. Powar, Jadhavaya called the congregation. Of these, Rao Bahadur P. K. Shinde met Rao Bahadur Dajirao Vichare through Guruvarya Govindrao Sasne and inquired whether his own education would be facilitated in Kolhapur. Rao Bahadur Vichare assured that his education would be facilitated by the advice of Maharaj. And inquired if any more students would come. This will give an idea of how eager Maharaj was to provide educational facilities to the budding students in order to spread education in the Bahujan Samaj. After the gathering of the students, the present 'Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maratha Student Hostel' was inaugurated on 18th April 1901. Shahu Maharaj's father was honored by Queen Victoria of England at his court and Shahu Maharaj was conferred the title of 'Maharaja'. The hostel was named after Queen Victoria as the doors of education were opened to the masses during the Queen's reign. The hostel was started as 'Victoria Maratha Boarding House' in a vacant lot adjacent to Satyavadi Bhavan in front of the present Padmaraje Maternity Homes.

The first meeting held for the establishment of Shri Shahu Maratha Student Hostel:

In order to provide permanent accommodation and education to the children of Bahujan Samaj, some concrete measures have to be taken. Bhaskarrao Jadhav, late.Dajirao Vijare, late. Jivajirao Sawant was instructed by Shahu Maharaj to call three Maratha youths to a special palace. As per the order of Shahu Maharaj. On 18th April 1901, a meeting of prominent leaders of the Maratha community was held under the chairmanship of Shrimant Dattajirao Ghatge (Sarjerao Ghatge) at his bungalow. The organization 'Maratha Education Society' was established. Shrimant Mamasaheb Khanwilkar, Shrimant Appasaheb Mhaisalkar, Shri Bhaskarrao Jadhav, Shri Dajirao Vichare, Shri Jivajirao Sawant etc. were the prominent participants. Behind all this was the influential personality and strong power of Rajarshi Srishahu Chhatrapati Maharaj, therefore this organization was born out of the opposition of the leading class. In this regard, Jivajirao Sawant in his speech at the first meeting held for the establishment of Sawant Sanstha said, In order to get the term nation in any country, the religion, language and historical relations of the people of that country have to be the same. Without this, patriotism is never awakened. Considering the situation of our country in this regard, the mind is very anxious. Thousands of sub-castes have now been formed from the Chatuvarna based on karma and temperament in the past. Sub-branches and sub-languages of Arya Dharma. People living in these countries today are in all sorts of different, different situations. A meeting has been convened today to consider the status of the Maratha caste in the past and what it is today.

In the last three centuries, the Maratha people have done a lot of favors to Maharashtra and even to Hindustan. At the time of Shri Shiva Chhatrapati, the Maratha people had prospered very well. Everyone knows this. But after the reign of Shahu Maharaj of Satara, the footsteps of the Maratha people have been retreating and they are still retreating. Therefore, people of that caste do not keep reading saying that they are in a very inferior condition. The first easy way out of this dilemma and to make people an important part of the nation is to educate the people of this caste.

The step of knowledge is far behind among our people. We must work hard to move forward. We have to do something for the education of such really poor and budding children as the condition of our people is poor and hundreds of children of smart and budding Marathas are not pursuing education. To object is to:

There are many people who object that such institutions are set up wherever they go, but these objections do not make sense. The aim is to improve the condition of each caste by keeping in mind that they will start behaving more harmoniously. With this objective in mind, people of different castes have started trying to improve their situation. Vidyavrdhi Funds have been set up in different castes. For example, Kayastha Parbhu Mandali's Vidyavrdhi Fund in Barode and Thane, Kudal Deshast Gaudbrahman Mandali's Vidyavrdhi Fund in Barode, Anjuman-e-Islam for Muslims in Mumbai, Khan Bahadur Qazi Shahuddin donated one lakh rupees to the government.

The importance of education for the welfare of any country can be understood by considering the education system in Europe and India. At least elementary education is compulsory for all subjects in Europe, England, France, Germany, etc. The children of the poor are educated at the expense of the government. Mill workers in these countries also read newspapers! When I was in Europe, I saw such a laborer reading the newspapers.

Education should be increased in Maratha caste, some measures should be taken. Sa. Balaso Gaikwad, Vichare etc. were in the minds of the congregations for a long time. He was called Shri. Bapuso Ghatge, Shri. Babaso Khanwilkar etc. got the approval of the congregation. From that, it was decided by the churches that an organization should be set up in Kolhapur to spread among the Maratha churches, so I am suggesting that such an organization should be set up here. The name of this organization should be "Maratha Education Society". I suggest that this society should initially set up a boarding house for the Marathas. The name of this boarding should be "Victoria Maratha Students Institution".

To run this organization well is to do all kinds of welfare for the Maratha caste. I am very happy to say that our intellect was inspired by Shri Chhatrapati Maharaj's intention to spread mutual love and affection by spreading knowledge among all castes. I am very grateful to Shrimant Maharaj Sarkar for the purpose of this Shri Maharaj Sarkar, but the man who lives in Maharashtra and almost anywhere in India and plays with the blood of Marathas. I sincerely hope that the above suggestions will be approved by Shri Maharaj Sarkar. The Maratha people living in Aryabhoomi today, who are now poor, will be happy to see that this help has come directly from the descendants of Shri Shiv Chhatrapati. Those who sincerely want the Maratha people to be in a better position, regardless of their caste or nationality, should also help this society. All those who help in this way will be very grateful to the Maratha community. It is a virtue to help in the work of education. At the time when Deccan Education Society was established in Pune, Shri. Remembering the tireless work of Abasaheb Ghadge and his efforts to make the organization last, I request the people of non-Maratha caste to give their share to the rich to help their organization. In this way, the reforming sun of Maratha society is rising on the horizon today. No matter how many clouds come along with it, the reforming sun will disappear and will always shine. I will finish my speech by praying fervently to the Lord. '

Discussion of dignitaries in the meeting of establishment of the organization:

To establish Shri Shahu Maratha Student Hostel i.e. Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha. The first meeting was held on 18th April, 1901. Many dignitaries from Kolhapur Sansthan and surrounding areas were present in this meeting. On this occasion, various dignitaries shared their views and there was a detailed and enlightening discussion. After the first speech of Mr. Jivaji Sawant, Mr. Abasaheb Himmat Bahadur suggested the establishment of "Maratha Education Society". Mr. At the suggestion of Abasaheb Himmat Bahadur, Shri.Approved by Dajiba Vichare. Mr. Appasaheb Saralashkar suggested to start a "Boarding House" on behalf of this society and Shri. Babasaheb Khanwilkar approved it. Mr. Panditrao, Chief Justice, was present as the guest. Mr. Vinayakrao Sohni Munsaf asked a poignant question, how much is the fund raised for this organization? Mr. Sawant expressed his views on setting up a boarding house for the Maratha community. This means that the boarding will be carried out sparingly. On this Shri. Sohni had to remain silent. Sir Raghunathrao Sabnis said that from the establishment of boarding, mutual communication increased and jealousy of study arose. So the idea of setting it up is a good one. Mr. As Panditrao's counter-notification was rejected, the original notice was passed and it was unanimously decided to name Bodig as Queen Victoria. Finally Mr. After Bhaskarrao Jadhav read out the rules, the meeting ended.

Colonel Silly's speech at the ground breaking ceremony of the organization:

The ground breaking ceremony of Shri Shahu Maratha Vidyarthi Hostel was held in the presence of Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj. In order to make Shri Shahu Maratha Vidyarthi Hostel a permanent building, a large space was given to the hostel at Dussehra Chowk. On September 25, 1901, Col. C. W. H. Colonel Silly delivered the inaugural address on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of the hostel at the hands of Silly, Political Agent Kolhapur Sansthan. Speaking on the occasion, he said, "It is a great pleasure to be associated with such an organization which is working for the welfare of the Maratha caste. There are huge benefits to the community as a whole from the bill. Just because schools are established does not mean that education is facilitated. It is very important to have an institution like this which manages the students coming here from outside the village. I hope that more Maratha householders will help this organization as people will see the benefits from this organization. A book describing Kolhapur gives the following information about the Maratha people. 'Maratha people are simple, open-minded, self-reliant, generous, polite and treat those who behave with good faith. His style is very famous. They understand that peoning is their business. There is a Brahmin clerk in the house of a Maratha who is happy after eating and drinking. He is known as Diwanji. Diwanji often takes advantage of his ignorance to deceive his master and sometimes he makes him his debtor. ' If this is true, then this is something to think about. The purpose of this committee should not be to provide meals and accommodation for study at low cost. We must also pay attention to moral and religious upliftment. Just as we English people are currently thinking of celebrating the millennium anniversary of Alfred the Great, so the Marathas should be proud of their national hero Shivaji. They should strive wholeheartedly to embrace their noble virtues."

Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj issued a proclamation announcing the establishment of Shri Shahu Maratha Student Hostel. Manifesto General Account dated 31st May 1901 No. 50 - is published to inform all the people that, In memory of Azma Victoria Kesar-e-Hind, an organization called "Maratha Education Society" has been established in Kolhapur for the benefit of the people of Maratha caste. By allowing your money to be deposited in government coffers. The following rules have been laid down for arranging the money at interest. '

Commendation in the present letter regarding the establishment of the organization:

This innovative organization, newly established in Kolhapur, was warmly welcomed by local and English and Marathi newspapers from places like Pune-Mumbai. This created enthusiasm among the workers of the organization and gave impetus to their work.

Able Newspapers:

After the establishment of Shri Shahu Maratha Student Hostel, Prof. In the 'Samarth' newspaper edited by Bijapurkar. A special article was published on May 1, 1901, referring to the establishment of the organization. 18-4-1901 should be considered as important day in the history of Kolhapur. This is the beginning of the article and it is unfortunate that the churches that have started working smoothly now are just beginning, but since our three urban Maratha graduates are in a good position, there is little to congratulate them for persuading their caste brothers to set up a very useful organization. Ra. Sa. Jadhav, Ra. Sa. Vichare, Ra. Sa. Sawant worked very hard in this work. It will not be long before the caste of the leaders who do such labor is born. It is not uncommon for those who do not know the importance of the word 'suggestion' and 'approval' and the importance of such an educational institution to take a new job from them. To make a disrespectful speech about the institution by the Brahmin caste graduates who did not do this work is to show that their merit has diminished. We have no doubt that our merciful and loving Lord Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj is always ready to help those who work hard.

Separate caste system was arranged by the leaders of that caste by raising their own funds. Recently this trend has fallen in about fifteen years. This initiative has been started by Brahmanettar Mandali. To say no, even in Brahman, there is an organization set up for the promotion of the same branch as "Madhyadin Mitra Samaj". Saraswat Brahmins are also following this path. There will be a little bit of satire in any movement. The unity of all the Aryan brothers in the caste-based industries is slightly eroded. But with all the education of common sense and wide-ranging thinking, it will be reduced. Justice Ranade used to congratulate him. That is why he used to praise the leaders of various castes and organizations like Pune's Maratha Association, Dharwad's Lingayat Fund, Pathare Prabhu Relief Fund, Daivajna Cast Fund, Jain Samaj and Kayastha Prabhu's Fund.

Dinbandhu Weekly:

The issue of the organization was published in the June 28, 1906 issue of Dinbandhu Weekly, the mouthpiece of the non-Brahmin movement. In it he writes, 'The existence of our kinship is due to the yoga of Shivchhatrapati. It is a matter of pride that this organization should get help from those who were born in the family of Chhatrapati. We all hope that the rich Yuvraj Maharaj will take the credit for taking proper care of them and bringing them in good tree condition. '

Shrimant Sayajirao Gaikwad praised the organization:

Shrimant Sayajirao Maharaj was honored by the organization. Thoughts expressed by Shrimant Sayajirao Maharaj in his speech in reply to this honor are very instructive even today. He said that caste discrimination has caused great loss to our nation. Therefore, the support of such a discriminatory organization is possible only from one point of view. All this discrimination must result in unity. If the current isolation can be supported, it can be done with this single point of view.

There are many benefits to student dormitories. As individuals, students come together with different qualities and dispositions. Having to endure the good and bad of others brings greatness to the mind.

If all the society is ignorant and one class goes ahead, its prosperity will not last forever and they will also have to suffer the ill effects of ignorance of others. An example of this can be seen in our Brahmin class. Whether or not the Brahmins deliberately kept other castes in ignorance. I don't want to get into this argument. But they did not strive for the upliftment of other castes and today they have to suffer the consequences.

All people are animals in the Lord's house. It is not good for us to indulge in unreasonable high-mindedness when he does not discriminate.

I am not saying that white people in Transvaal should be treated unfairly. I condemn those who do so. But if we blame them, we must blame our people.

I hear that the minds of the castes in Kolhapur are not clear about each other. The society has started striving for upliftment, the society is in a state of transition, so no one should feel sad about the occasion. Which are left behind. They all want to come forward with their hands full. Maharajani has given education facilities to the backward castes. In order to harm the other castes, the backward castes got education and became better than the others, so the Maharajani should not give them these concessions even for a day. Giving them concessions after that would be an injustice and partisanship and I am sure Maharaj will not do that. There is plenty of room for such a time. May God give Maharaj a long life but I don't think such a time will come in Maharaj's career. When it comes to their children's careers, they should not continue this concession one day, it is the duty of the king to educate the people. If the people are so damaged, then there will be a catastrophe. Therefore, the king should give free and compulsory education to the people. The English government is sovereign and Kartu Martum otherwise Kartum is capable. Do whatever it takes, but we kings should do as much as we can. (Ref: Sayaji Vijay on 4-5-1909)

Hostel start and relocation:

With the establishment of 'Maratha Education Society', Shri Shahu Maratha Vidyarthi Hostel was started. However, it cannot be said that the foundation of the organization was immediately established. The beginning of the hostel was stumbling like this, during this period there was an outbreak of plague in Kolhapur, so the big question of space was Shri. P. C. Patil, Sheikh Abdullah, Shri. R. The dormitory for the three Pawar students was set up in the outhouse of Forest House near Risala at Dussehra Chowk. In this, Miss was run on the lines of club system and this work was done under the supervision of Shri Govindrao Nanasaheb Sasane. Sasane Guruji with great courage tried to strengthen the seal of this hostel. The organization did not stay long in the Forest Department bungalows. From the first three students, that number became twelve. Due to insufficient space, all the students were given Shri. Mamasaheb Khanvilkar was taken to the castle near the present Kasba Gate. But from there the hostel had to be relocated and they came to another Bhusari Wadi near Dutondi Maruti (Old Wednesday). Here, however, the world of the organization was running smoothly for a year. During the first four months of the year, the dormitory was constantly evacuated. Bapusaheb Ghadge and Sarjerao Wazarat visited Kolhapur Sansthan wisely and collected donations for the organization.

Maharaj realized that it was important to take some immediate steps to bring stability to the organization. The building housed the former museum. Later the plague was hospitalized. The maharaja gave the land to the organization so that the building could be used properly. Shahu Maharaj did not stop there but gave a generous donation of Rs. 4,000 to the organization. At that time about Rs.Given the land with annual income. Provision has been made for uninterrupted annual assistance of Rs. 550 / - per annum. The fund of the organization is Rs. He kept the interest at the court and allowed the teachers of Rajaram High School to act as the superintendent of the institution. This far-sighted provision by Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj brought a kind of stability to the organization. The first report of this organization in the next sixteen years was published in 1917.

First year students of Shri Shahu Student Hostel:

The number of first year students of Shri Shahu Student Hostel increased from 03 and in the whole year 1901 it increased to 12. In this R. S. Khapre, m. S. Machale, B. R. Mahadik, A. L. Parbh, G. S. Mane, D. B. Jadhav, Shripatrao Palwan (Bordig's food manager), N. M. Powar, Shri. Shinde, G. N. Pisal, Babaso Daphle, Shri. Jadhav, R. R. Powar, B. J. Parle, G. R. Nimbalkar, Sheikh Abdullah, P. C. Patil, P. K. Shinde, K. Sarnaik, A. P. Parte, K. D. Mane, R. B. Gaikwad, H. K. Salokhe, Shri. Jadhav Belgaum, Shri. More etc. were included.

Development and work of the organization during the time of Rajaram Maharaj:

He inherited his father's social reforms. Rajaram Maharaj allotted lands and properties in various places for the expenses of this hostel. The hostel received generous donations from many philanthropists including Shrimant Sayajirao Gaikwad (Baroda), Shrimant Tukojirao Pawar (Devas), Sawai Tukojirao Holkar (Indore), Shrimant Fateh Singh Maharaj (Akkalkot), Shrimant Pratap Singh Maharaj (Baroda). This hostel was expanded during the reign of Rajaram Maharaj. Due to the increase in the number of students, in the year 1935, Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj started implementing the concept of 'Foreign Education Fund' through this hostel. But unfortunately, due to the sudden onset of time, the plan could not materialize. The organization is determined to make Rajaram Maharaj's unfulfilled dream come true at least partially. B. B. Powar was given a loan of Rs 3,000 to go abroad for higher studies. Going abroad, Power completed his education through this fund.

Rajaram Maharaj had given Rs. 30,000 to Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj at that time to expand the fund and provide education and learning facilities to the students of Bahujan Samaj in Europe. The work done by Rajaram Maharaj and the money provided by him was a very bold decision. Near the station, the present Gokul Hotel was donated by Rajaram Maharaj to the organization. The construction was completed in 1947. D. M. Bhosale, Shri. Achrekar, Dr. Apart from bringing development of these places through Shirodkar, lands of Bhedsagaon, Annapur, Hatkanangle Porle etc. were given to the organization as a reward. Two shops on the corner of Shivaji Market in the heart of Kolhapur were donated to the organization. Through all these assets, the organization gained a huge financial base at that time and from the income received, many students of Bahujan Samaj were able to get educational benefits. During the reign of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, the financial assistance received from the Kolhapur court increased from Rs. 550 to Rs. 1,550 per annum. Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj pays close attention to the administration of the hostel and the students.

Golden Festival of Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha:

Golden Jubilee Year of Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha Celebrated on April 30, 1954. The late Yashwantrao Chavan was to be the chief guest. Only self. As Chavan Saheb was ill, he could not attend the event. D. R. The ceremony was presided over by Dhanwade and attended by Shri Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj, Matoshri Vijaymala Maharanisaheb, Indumati Ranisaheb Maharaj. On this occasion, Shri Shahaji Maharaj delivered a long speech. In it, he says, 'My grandfather Rajarshi did not agree that the oak class in the society should be ahead and the other should be backward. His vision was one of equality and humanitarianism. His motto was that the nation could not be said to have truly prospered without the overall upliftment of the masses. Education is the only way to awaken this huge society which is mired in ignorance and poverty. Recognizing this Rajarshini, he actively assisted in the education work of all the castes in the society and adopted the path of ideal Rajdharma. Established various educational institutes and hostels and made them functional by giving them generous annual income. Scholarships were given to poor students. He actively encouraged the establishment of such institutions by bringing together well-educated emerging youth from different parts of the country so that the scope of educational work should not be limited to their own institutions but should be extended to all parts of the country. Ignorance abolished the shackles and created a new consciousness in the Bahujan Samaj. Although the name of this institution mentions 'Maratha Hostel', the practice of admitting students of any caste if they wish is already going on here. It is a matter of great satisfaction that Rajarshi's vision of treating people of all castes with equality has been carried out in this manner. After Rajarshi, our revered father late. Shrimachhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj also took care of this organization and made all possible efforts for its growth. We are happy and proud to say that their efforts have been instrumental in making this hostel a golden and glorious day of the Golden Jubilee. Rajarshi Shri Shahu Maharaj and Shikshanpremi Shri Rajaram Maharaj were fortunately in love with this organization. We feel sorry for this organization. We are also proud of this institution for bringing to the fore the work done by the alumni of the institute. We would like to take this opportunity to suggest that the alumni of the institute should have a motherly love for this institution. In this regard, the early students of the institute and the knowledgeable and elderly Dr. who are with us today. P. C. Patil is an example. If all the alumni like him have a passion for this institution, I am sure that the future of the institution will not be bright.'

On the occasion of the golden jubilee year of Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, the President Dr. D. R. Speaking on the occasion, Dhanwade said, "Such hostels are necessary for the spread of education in the Bahujan Samaj and the democratic government should not help such institutions but it is the first duty of the government. Shri Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj on this occasion announced an annual grant of one thousand rupees to the organization. The organization was getting an annual grant of Rs. 550/- from Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj. Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj increased this grand to Rs. 1550 / -. This grant was received till Kolhapur Sansthan merged with Independent India.

Inauguration of Shahaji Division:

The Shri Shahaji Vibhag Hostel was newly constructed to facilitate the accommodation of students through the Shri Shahu Martha Student Hostel. Inauguration of Shahaji Division by Shri Bapusaheb Gaikwad on Done on January 9, 1955. On this occasion, Bapusaheb Gaikwad said, 'I congratulate Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj, the savior of the Bahujan Samaj, who was born in this organization and in a way justifying the naming of a new building in this hostel named after his beloved grandson as the existing Chhatrapati. I am a devoted servant of Chhatrapati and I feel very close to this organization which is blessed with Chhatrapati and his name is associated with it. The program was chaired by Dr. D. R. This was Dhanwade.

Changes in the name of the organization:

The name of the hostel run by the Maratha Education Society for the students of Bahujan Samaj was 'Victoria Maratha Boarding House' established by Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj. Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj made conscious efforts for the development of this institution and hostel. He dedicated his life for the upliftment of Bahujan Samaj. Sanstha and Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Vidyarthi Hostel Kolhapur. On At the general meeting of the organization held on 16th August, 1952, it was decided to change the name of the hostel run by the organization and 'Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maratha Shikshan Sanstha' and 'Shri Shahu Chhatrapati Maratha Vidyarthi Vasatigriha' by making some changes in the above resolution of the organization.
